Headache Behind Your Eye, Migraines or Jaw Pain? What Can Help | South Edmonton
Headaches and jaw pain often start with tight muscles in the neck, shoulders and jaw. Here are answers to the headache and TMJ questions we hear most at Massage Square in South Edmonton.
I have a headache on the right side and behind my eye. What can help?
One-sided headaches behind the eye are often linked to tight muscles in the neck, shoulders and upper back, or to jaw tension from clenching (TMJ). A head, neck and shoulder massage, TMJ massage or acupuncture may help ease that tension. See a doctor right away (or call 911) for a sudden, severe or 'worst ever' headache, or one with vision loss, weakness, confusion, fever or a stiff neck.
Book: Head, Neck and Shoulder Massage 30 mins ($75) or TMJ Massage 30 min ($75) or AcuRelief 45 min Head, Neck, Jaw (Headaches + Migraines) ($105)
What helps a tension headache that feels like a tight band around my head?
Band-like tension headaches are commonly connected to tight neck, scalp and shoulder muscles, often from stress, poor sleep or long hours at a screen. Massage that focuses on the neck, shoulders and base of the skull, or acupuncture for tension, may help relieve the tightness. Seek medical care if headaches are new, getting worse, or come with other symptoms.
Book: Head, Neck and Shoulder Massage 45 mins ($100) or Follow Up Acupuncture: Nerve, Headaches & Tension (up to 60 min) ($115)
Can massage or acupuncture help with migraines?
Many people in Edmonton use massage and acupuncture as part of their migraine routine, as they may help reduce muscle tension and stress that can be migraine triggers. They are not a replacement for your doctor's migraine plan, so keep any prescribed medication and tell your practitioner about your history. See a doctor right away (or call 911) for a sudden, severe or 'worst ever' headache, or one with vision loss, weakness, confusion, fever or a stiff neck.
Book: AcuRelief 45 min Head, Neck, Jaw (Headaches + Migraines) ($105) or MOT 30 min Follow-up: Migraines, Jaw Tension (TMJ), Muscle Fatigue, Stress-Related Tension (Anxiety, Panic etc.) ($90)
My jaw clicks and hurts when I chew. Could it be TMJ, and what can I do?
Jaw clicking, soreness near the ear and tired chewing muscles are common signs of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) tension. TMJ massage, including intra-oral work by a trained RMT, or TMJ-focused facial acupuncture may help relax the jaw muscles. If your jaw locks, or you can't open or close your mouth fully, see your dentist or doctor.
Book: TMJ Massage 30 min ($75) or TMJ (Intra-oral & external) Massage 30 min ($75) or GlowFusion 60 min TMJ Relief: Reduce Jaw Pain, Tightness & Tension Headaches ($160)
I wake up with a sore jaw and headache from clenching or grinding my teeth. What can help?
Night-time clenching or grinding (bruxism) can leave the jaw, temples and neck tight and sore in the morning. TMJ massage or Manual Osteopathic Therapy focused on jaw tension may help release those muscles, and your dentist can check whether a night guard is right for you.
Book: TMJ (Intra-oral & external) Massage 30 min ($75) or MOT 30 min Follow-up: Migraines, Jaw Tension (TMJ), Muscle Fatigue, Stress-Related Tension (Anxiety, Panic etc.) ($90)
