Whiplash, Heel Pain or Tennis Elbow? What Should You Do? | South Edmonton

Some pain comes from a specific injury or overused tendon. These answers cover whiplash after a car accident, plantar fasciitis and tennis or golfer's elbow.

I have whiplash after a car accident. What should I do?

First, get checked by a doctor, physiotherapist or chiropractor, especially if pain is severe or you have numbness, dizziness or headaches. Massage therapy may help with neck and upper-back muscle tension from whiplash, and in Alberta it can often be part of your auto insurance claim (see our Insurance & MVA FAQ). Go to emergency for severe neck pain, weakness, or any loss of consciousness.

Book: MVA Initial Assessment & Massage (75 min) ($150) or MVA Massage 60 mins ($130)

I have heel pain in the morning. Could it be plantar fasciitis?

Sharp heel pain with your first steps in the morning is a common sign of plantar fasciitis. Acupuncture, instrument-assisted soft tissue work (IASTM) and calf and foot massage may help relieve tension in the foot and calf. See a doctor or physiotherapist if pain persists or you can't put weight on your foot.

Book: AcuRelief 60 min Planter Fasciitis ($145) or IASTM: 30 min (1-2 Small-Med Area) ($75)

Can massage help tennis elbow or golfer's elbow?

Tennis and golfer's elbow usually involve overworked forearm muscles and tendons from gripping, typing or sports. Instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy (IASTM) or acupuncture for sports injuries may help relieve tension in the forearm. Rest from aggravating activities and see a physiotherapist if pain lasts several weeks.

Book: IASTM: 30 min (1-2 Small-Med Area) ($75) or AcuRelief 60 min Sports Injury/ Recovery/ Pain Management ($145)
